Comprehensive Addiction Treatment
A comprehensive addiction treatment is a key element leading to recovery. Historically, evidence captured in the field of addiction has had a massive impact on the delivery of addiction treatment services— however, it usually takes a long time for any real changes to be made. “As this literature has developed, so too has the organization and delivery of services around the world (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, with the usual lag between the generation of evidence and its application. The field of substance use treatment appears to be particularly prone to this evidence gap…” (Rush). At Royal Life Centers, we make it our business to stay up-to-date with credible research, studies, and evidence that relates to the field of addiction. We are constantly evolving to make our addiction treatment programs as effective as possible.
Recently, an in-depth study came out with seven core principles of the most effective approach to addiction treatment, and we are happy to see that our addiction treatment contains all of these core principles; making our approach the most effective in treatment. We are never resistant to innovation, and place the highest regard to proven effective methodology when it comes to our treatment programs— and the result shows: we are transforming lives through our addiction treatment.
Seven core principles of the most effective approach to addiction treatment:
- A broad systems approach is needed to address the full spectrum of issues.
- Collaboration between all care providers involved through out the treatment process.
- A range of system supports are needed.
- The need for services need to be grounded in self-determination, holistic cultural practices, choice and partnership.
- Attention to diversity and social-structural disadvantages are crucial to equitable system design.
- Systematic screening and assessment is needed to devise the best course of treatment and treatment services in a stepped service framework.
- Individualized treatment planning must include the right mix of evidence-informed interventions.
A broad systems approach is essentially an approach that takes into account the wider picture, or overall goal, in contrast to focusing on a single element. A broad systems approach pays attention to interactions of all different components in respect to the overall goal. This is why at Royal Life Centers, we create an optimal recovery experience as guests collaborate with clinicians to develop a treatment plan that involves a variety of services and treatment methods that work together to create a treatment that flows into a broad system approach with commonality in reaching a goal of recovery.
We also carry out this core principle by providing intensive group therapy, which is optimal in addressing issues related to substance abuse, problems, and disorders at a community level for an impact on the whole population of guests.
This speaks to the collaborative efforts amongst members of the clinical team. “Expected benefits from collaboration include improved access, earlier intervention, improved transitions and continuity of care, and better outcomes, particularly for those with more complex conditions. Definitive statements of the effectiveness of integration and collaboration are difficult given the vast array of potential strategies and activities that are implemented at the service and system levels” (Rush).
At Royal Life Centers, we hold regular meetings amongst our clinical team to report on updates for each of our guests, including any concerns or ideas to optimize the treatment experience for each case. Our collaborative efforts create a whole picture for each member of the clinical team, allowing them to be up-to-date on any information, behaviors, issues, etc. to allow the best treatment for each of our guests.
At Royal Life Centers, we have an elaborate team of highly trained staff members and professionals in the medical and healthcare sectors, to support the full system of our addiction treatment programs. We have an in-house staff for our aftercare programs also, because even though guests are not at an inpatient level of care, we believe in providing 24/7 access to support and guidance through out all stages of the recovery process. Our residential treatment options provide 24/7 access to both our staff members and medical professional staff. We have a range of employees in place, to provide support in all forms.
Royal Life Centers also introduces guests to 12 step programs of recovery, in which we encourage guests to join and become involved in, so that they may meet good people in recovery to begin building a strong sober support network to have during and after treatment. We place a high priority on building a sober support network of strong people in recovery, so that guests always have people to reach out to both inside and far after completing treatment. This sober support network will serve as an invaluable source of support, guidance, and positive sober experiences.
Royal Life Centers places a great level of importance on guests asking for the help that they need. In addition to provide addiction treatment specifically tailored to meet each guest’s personal needs and goals, we match each guest up with a case manager who helps them with a variety of services. Our addiction treatment is holistic, as it focuses on healing in the mind, body, and spirit. We believe guests need to take a leading role in their recovery, as the recovery journey is distinctively their own— guided, supported, and strengthened by us. We work together with guests to create addiction treatment optimized for their own needs, goals, and circumstances.
This is why we provide sensitivity training to all of our staff members, so that they gain the knowledge and understanding of all different cultures, cultural traditions, values and customs. In respect to certain cultures, “Indigenous people have distinct strengths, cultures, and needs with respect to mental wellness, and benefit from access to a continuum of services and supports grounded in self-determination, holistic cultural practices, choice, and partnership” (Rush). This is why our sensitivity training is of paramount importance to create the best, all-encompassing treatment approaches. In order to create an ideal social-structure rooted in equality, we value each of our guests in the same capacity. We don’t play favorites or allow a hierarchy to emerge, guests are all in the same place— have all ended up in the same place, and we stress this point to show that addiction can bring us together instead of tear us apart.
Upon arrival to our facilities, guests are thoroughly assessed for their drug or alcohol history, information that pertains to their case, symptoms of withdrawal, etc. In this intake process, guests are also evaluated thoroughly for any co-occuring disorders and other mental and physical health factors. Our thorough approach to screening and assessing guests give us the best foundation to develop the optimal course of treatment for their individual case. Our screening and assessments lie as the framework for that guest’s treatment.
At Royal Life Centers, we take a very collaborate and individualized approach in our addiction treatment. Guests work alongside their primary therapist and case manager to develop a treatment plan specifically tailored to meet their needs, goals, and circumstances. We believe that one size does not fit all, and addiction treatment most definitely should not generalized. Our approach is as individualized as possible for ultimate effectiveness. Every facet of our addiction treatment is customizable in some sense, which allows for targeted treatment for each individual case and the most effective results.
Our treatment approach uses only proven-effective methods of addiction treatment. We put in place what we call “behavioral contracts” for guests who need interventions that are needed to address and support their individual growth in recovery— these “behavioral contracts” are commonly referred to as guest interventions. For example, if a female guest has extreme difficulties with male-dependency, we may ask that guest to attend women’s only 12 step meetings. These interventions or “behavioral contracts” are put in place to challenge behavioral issues and strengthen each guest’s recovery experience.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) recognizes comprehensive addiction treatment to be the most effective form of addiction treatment also, as it offers up proven effective methods of treatment in addition to a variety of services that serve each individual guest and their specific case.
