How Dr. Seuss Helps Me Surrender to Sobriety

Let’s talk about the word surrender. It’s got a bad rap. When you think of winning a battle, surrender is the last road that you think will lead you there. It may not be a wise route, when battling many people, places and things in life, but it the ONLY route when going up against addiction. There truly is no other option for us, as we have seen so many people choose differently and lose. The objective is to give up the fight and get out of the ring!

Vulnerability Will Follow Surrender, and You Will Be Safe

In shifting the effort that you use from keeping your head above water while using to getting out of the water and learning to dance, miracles will begin to happen before your eyes. The gesture of surrender opens up the doors to exploration, stabilization, identification. It seems like becoming vulnerable would require a sense of weakness when, in fact, it takes great courage, and it will lead to opportunities that can take you to being the authentic person you seek.

What do you have to lose? Getting Sober is Totally Worth The Effort

We have decided that drug use is a battle you can’t win, and that’s the bad news. The good news is that faith is a bet you can’t lose! What a relief right? If you are skeptical that faith and new new way of life can help you, just resolve to the fact that even if it doesn’t help, it can’t hurt. So why not give it a shot and keep it simple? It really boils down to two things: what you can control and what you can’t. Usually we see, that when we decipher those, our to-do list, based on our ability to control, is quite small.

“The Only Way We Will Ever Stand, Is On Our Knees with Lifted Hands.”

Fear is the emotion that usually leads us to seek control. Faith is the one thing that has the ability to take away fear, and that is why surrendering to something bigger than you is non-negotiable. It is absolutely required with no exception. You have to give up to get up, and the sky is the limit. As the great Dr. Seuss so perfectly said, “You’re of to great places. Today is your day. Your mountain is waiting. So get on your way!”
