Outguest care offers substance abuse treatment during the day or evening, while you return home or to a sober living facility at night. An outguest treatment program can follow an inguest program, or be attended by someone already in recovery and looking for additional support. Almost all outguest care consists of support groups and counseling, along with individual therapy.

Throughout, you’ll learn different tools and strategies to overcome your addiction. Some group examples include relapse prevention, identifying triggers, self-care, nutrition, and anger management. Some treatment centers also offer recreational therapies such as team-building exercises and equine therapy to name a few.

Will Outguest Care Work For Me?

Outguest care is best suited for those with a mild to the moderate substance abuse problem. Substance abuse caught in the early phases, without developing into a completely life-altering addiction, can be treated through outguest care. Outguest care is great when someone needs flexibility in schedule due to other life responsibilities, such as family or work.

In order for outguest care to work, you must be highly motivated to stay sober. Since you are not under constant supervision, the temptation can get the best of someone in the early stages of recovery. People with a severe addiction to a substance for an extended period of time will most likely need a more intensive form of treatment, such as an inguest program.

What is the Treatment Process in Outguest Care?

Outguest treatment offers much more freedom than an inguest program. Some choose to stay in a sober living facility while they attend, however, living at home is also an option. This will make the cost of outguest treatment generally much lower than an inguest facility.

Most outguest programs will work around your schedule so that you don’t need to sacrifice your job for your well-being. Not having to interrupt your normal schedule allows for more discreet treatment, since an extended absence from everyday life isn’t necessary. Outguest treatment allows guests to find a balance between their life and recovery.

Partial Hospitalization Program

Some providers require different levels of commitment to their outguest programs. A partial hospitalization program, or PHP, has a higher level of commitment than a more traditional outguest program. Group therapy is usually more frequent and attendance may be required to successfully complete a PHP. An intensive outguest program, or IOP, sometimes refers to a less restrictive form of treatment. IOP guests are expected to attend a set number of groups per week as well, just not quite as frequently as in PHP.

Relapse Prevention

Outguest rehab is much less effective for those with a history of relapse. Inguest treatment is a much better choice for someone with a long history of substance abuse or a history of relapsing after treatment. Outguest works best for someone with a stable, healthy environment to return home to every night, as well as someone with a strong desire to change their life for the better and break away from their addiction. A personal support network outside of treatment is also crucial to continued sobriety during and after treatment.
