BlueCross BlueShield is a nationwide company that provides medical insurance to over 100 million customers around the country. They work closely with providers all across the medical field to provide a wide range of affordable coverage options. BlueCross BlueShield is one of the largest providers of health insurance, accepted by a high percentage of substance abuse, mental health and addiction treatment facilities. Additionally, they offer some of the most comprehensive coverage for the treatment of substance use disorder and addiction.
Most policyholders will find that they are eligible for coverage for some or all of their stay in rehab. Depending on your type of coverage, most policies cover anywhere between 60 and 90 percent of the cost of treatment. However, each policy is different and will have several variables such as co-pays, deductibles, and limits.
BlueCross BlueShield plans may include some of the following:
- Medical detoxification
- Inpatient addiction rehab
- Outpatient addiction rehab
- Co-occurring mental health disorders
- Aftercare programs
Does Blue Cross Blue Shield Cover Inpatient Rehab?
Each plan is different, so there is no definitive answer, but generally there will be some form of coverage for inpatient rehab. The easiest way to find out is to call us and we’ll do a complimentary, no obligation benefit verification. Additionally, you can contact Blue Cross Blue Shield directly from the number on the back of your card.
Does BlueCross BlueShield Cover Outpatient Rehab?
Again, BlueCross BlueShield policies have many variations depending on a long list of factors. Generally speaking though, outpatient rehab will be partially covered at minimum. We are here to help you determine what your policy looks like and which program will be the best fit for you.
In-Network or Out-of-Network
BlueCross BlueShield plans will most likely be in one of two categories. There is an HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) plan or a PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plan. Usually HMO plans only cover services by a particular selection of facilities. PPO plans will have a higher number of options as opposed to an HMO plan. PPO plans allow for customers to use out-of-network facilities; however, the cost will almost always be higher compared to an in-network provider.
